Thailand — Phuket; Phang Nga Bay and Limestone Karst Towers

Patong Beach (Patong Jetty in the background)

After overnighting on Penang Island, Malaysia, Celebrity Millennium arrived the next day, 16 November 2025, to the city of Phuket on the island of Phuket, which makes up the province of Phuket. That’s a lot of Phuket! But today we would not be seeing a lot of Phuket. Ursula had us scheduled for another Thai long-tailed boat tour. But unlike our Damneon Saduk Floating Market tour (video link below), these boats are made for the open water of Phang Nga Bay.

These open-water long-tail boats are longer, wider, and hold more passengers:

Or at least most of them appear to be:

At any rate, they’re certainly colorful:

You’ll find these boats frequently tied up and waiting for hire:

Our particular tour, arranged through Celebrity Millennium, originated from Patong Beach across from the Seaview Patong Hotel:

From the Seaview we traveled north by bus to Surak Pier. Then, after we boarded our long-tail boat, we set off into Phang Nga Bay and the Ao Phang Nga National Park. Here we would motor past towering limestone karst islands:

We shall continue with this Phang Nga Bay series both this week and next. So, until Wednesday’s installment and this week’s Fun Photo Friday, I shall leave you with this photo gallery/slide show:
