The fellow you see above is a Mona monkey, which were introduced to Grenada from Ghana. You can find these guys in the forest, and I’ll tell you in a few moments where we encountered this cute, friendly fellow. But first I left you hanging on Monday with our visit to Annandale Waterfall & Forest Park. So, here is Annandale Waterfall:
By now Garfield St. Louis was driving us high into the mountainous interior to Grand Etang National Park & Forest Reserve. Here we would see small towns among lush tropical forests, lots of flora, and of, course, some out-of-place fauna.
Finally there:
Here are some of the beautiful flowers we saw at this next destination:

The visitor center here is a former home. Inside you can view a short film on the history of the park.
While outside you get a stunning view of the Grand Etang Lake, nestled inside a volcanic crater:
I mentioned above that here you would see some out-of-place fauna. The cute little fellow below has ancestors in Ghana, and his descendants were brought to Grenada aboard 18th century slave ships. This is the Mona monkey, whose cheek pouches can store as much food as its stomach:
Time to start heading back into St. George’s:

Okay, it’s true. I skipped around a bit to encompass the ABC Islands in one long series. But now I’m back to covering other Southern Caribbean destinations we hit beyond that. This week and next I’ll show you the island of Grenada in the Windward Islands of the West Indies. This was our view from Grandeur of the Seas when we docked in the capital city of St. George’s:
At around 8:40 a.m. on 22 February 2022 we disembarked and headed toward town.
Looking toward the hill above, one of the first things you’ll notice here is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception:
We were about to head on into town on foot when we ran into Garfield St. Louis who offered a tour. If you’re looking for a tour, you can’t do much better than Garfield. He will definitely give you your money’s worth. We had a wonderful time touring the island with him.
So, we climbed in Garfield’s chariot and took off into the Grenada’s interior. Deep into the interior, as we climbed uphill toward some waterfalls, Garfield took us to a spice shop. After all, we are on the Spice Isle, right? Here we have a sampling:
After the spice vendor we continued on to see a pair of waterfalls. The first, Shodoo Waterfall, is free and easily visible from Constantine road:
The second will cost you a few bucks. This is Annandale Waterfall & Forest Park. You first step into gift shop to buy a ticket. But make sure you look around before taking the short hike to the waterfall:
Time to hit the trail:
