Circumnavigating New Zealand — Akaroa; Neat buildings abound

A Victorian Lady

Walking around Akaroa you’ll find a lot of little architectural gems. Next to the dock into which we tendered, for instance, is this rather nifty lighthouse:

Remember that wonderful serving of Murphy’s on the Corner fish and chips I told you about last Wednesday (see: Best Fish and Chips Ever)? Murphy’s is on the corner of Church Street and Rue Jolie. If you’re walking to Murphy’s southeast via Church Street you’ll find several fun buildings to photograph starting with The Old Shipping Office:

Next up you’ll stumble across the brightly colored Fire & Ice store:

And just next door to Fire & Ice is a charming little rental, Maison des Fleurs:

Stop for lunch at Murphy’s, then hang a left onto Rue Jolie for some interesting residences. In addition to the Victorian in the first photo above, there was this cute place:

Wednesday’s article will show a couple of today’s buildings taken from different angles, but will concentrate more on views around the shoreline. Until then, here’s a fun preview:
