Palomas, Mexico; More on The Pink Store


Pottery at The Pink Store

The last several times we’ve visited The Pink Store there is one particular sculpture that has really intrigued me, but we have no place large enough to display it. This sculpture is large, carved from wood, and meticulously painted in rich detail and color on both sides. It’s another depiction of Saint Michael:

Need a table that will attract as much attention as any art you might place upon it? Take a look at these two examples:

A common art theme in Mexico is the combination Sun and Moon. These are often quite colorful when in ceramic, and at The Pink Store you can even find metal ones made as wall light fixtures.

One way in which Ivonne Romero displays her light fixtures here at The Pink Store is by hanging some of them on large metal stands. Pick and choose, then get a store employee to take it down and pack it up for you:

Palomas, Mexico; The Art of The Pink Store


You’ll recall that this series on The Pink Store will also feature some recent El Paso sunset and desert flowers. The above photo gets one of those two out of the way for today. I’ll feature later today a photo of a cactus in our front yard that blooms but once a year, and 25 April was this year’s date. But for now we’re looking at The Pink Store, and today’s focus will be on works of art you can find there. For instance, the photo below contains a carved wooden niche with a colorful depiction of Saint Michael the Archangel. We have a similar work hanging in a guest bath in our home.

Much of the wooden art in The The Pink Store has religious overtones, but the inherent beauty of these works can integrate with most any home’s decor:

Other works lean toward the whimsical. Ursula absolutely loves this style for decorating bedrooms:

One of my favorite modern pieces is the cobalt blue mask below. The artist also had examples on display in The Pink Store in yellow and green.

The entire store is a feast for the eyes, or the camera, as you look about at the explosion of colors and textures throughout:

Speaking of color, let me sneak in this cactus from our front yard. This thing only blooms once a year:

Fun Food Friday — Delightful Mexican lunch at The Pink Store

The Pink Store is a place to go for arts and crafts, tequila, mescal, and a whole lot more. Want a drink? There’s a full-service bar with some of the best, and strongest, margaritas on the planet:

On this visit, made on 19 April of this year, we brought along two cruise buddies whom, quite by accident, we found live right here in El Paso. We met on an Alaska cruise last year (Part 1 of cruising Alaska off-season here: Cruising in the Age of Covid-19 — Part 1). Here are Bob “O” and Cory “M” Bustillos posing with Ursula “L” at the Puerto Palomas touristy sign:

Now I’m going to have to apologize. I snagged a photo of the chips, salsa, and pico de gallo:

But we were so engrossed in our conversations that I totally missed the guacamole and queso fundido con rajas (melted cheese with poblano chile strips). Don’t be grossed out, but I didn’t remember to start taking pictures of the food until we all had already started to dig in. Here is the partially eaten remains of a Plato Mexicano, with included rice, frijoles, taco, red enchilada, and chile rellano(my recipe for that here: Get Stuffed on Chile Rellenos):
