54 Days at Sea — Exploring Ponta Delgada, Azores
The passengers and crew of MS Prinsendam were five days away from our next port of, so Ursula and I were out taking advantage of our last walk on land until then.
Fortunately, Ponta Delgada is a great walking city offering much to see and photograph. For instance, here’s a great street view:
At one point we strolled along the shoreline:
We also enjoyed the historic buildings and squares in the city center (baixa, or ‘lower town’):

54 Days at Sea — Heading back via the Azores
After two days in Lisbon, it was time to head for another Portuguese port of call, but this one was days away. We left Lisbon on May 4, began our return transatlantic crossing, and stopped three days later in Ponta Delgada in the Azores.
This Portuguese destination has at least one thing in common with Lisbon. Decorative tile-work:
The buildings are also quite similar to what we’ve seen elsewhere in Portugal:
Of course, this wouldn’t be Old World without the obligatory fortress:
