Palomas, Mexico; The Art of The Pink Store

You’ll recall that this series on The Pink Store will also feature some recent El Paso sunset and desert flowers. The above photo gets one of those two out of the way for today. I’ll feature later today a photo of a cactus in our front yard that blooms but once a year, and 25 April was this year’s date. But for now we’re looking at The Pink Store, and today’s focus will be on works of art you can find there. For instance, the photo below contains a carved wooden niche with a colorful depiction of Saint Michael the Archangel. We have a similar work hanging in a guest bath in our home.

Much of the wooden art in The The Pink Store has religious overtones, but the inherent beauty of these works can integrate with most any home’s decor:

Other works lean toward the whimsical. Ursula absolutely loves this style for decorating bedrooms:

Other artists carried by The Pink Store have a more modern feel, as you can see from the two statues below:

One of my favorite modern pieces is the cobalt blue mask below. The artist also had examples on display in The Pink Store in yellow and green.

The entire store is a feast for the eyes, or the camera, as you look about at the explosion of colors and textures throughout:

Color everywhere

Speaking of color, let me sneak in this cactus from our front yard. This thing only blooms once a year:

But enough of that. Let’s continue with The Pink Store. As I showed you last week, Day of the Dead pieces feature prominently:

Three more quick views of The Pink Store merchandise, and we’ll continue on Wednesday:

Fun Food Friday — Delightful Mexican lunch at The Pink Store

The Pink Store restaurant

The Pink Store is a place to go for arts and crafts, tequila, mescal, and a whole lot more. Want a drink? There’s a full-service bar with some of the best, and strongest, margaritas on the planet:

On this visit, made on 19 April of this year, we brought along two cruise buddies whom, quite by accident, we found live right here in El Paso. We met on an Alaska cruise last year (Part 1 of cruising Alaska off-season here: Cruising in the Age of Covid-19 — Part 1). Here are Bob “O” and Cory “M” Bustillos posing with Ursula “L” at the Puerto Palomas touristy sign:

And here they are as we set down for lunch:

By the way, not only does The Pink Store have indoor dining:

You also have the option of sitting outside:

Now I’m going to have to apologize. I snagged a photo of the chips, salsa, and pico de gallo:

But we were so engrossed in our conversations that I totally missed the guacamole and queso fundido con rajas (melted cheese with poblano chile strips). Don’t be grossed out, but I didn’t remember to start taking pictures of the food until we all had already started to dig in. Here is the partially eaten remains of a Plato Mexicano, with included rice, frijoles, taco, red enchilada, and chile rellano(my recipe for that here: Get Stuffed on Chile Rellenos):

I had The Pink Store’s chimichanga:

As did Ursula:

Cory’s Plato Mexicano lasted long enough for me to get the shot above, but Bob didn’t give me much of chance to get my act together:

Next week we’ll continue looking at what The Pink Store has to offer in the way of arts, crafts, furniture, and more.

Palomas, Mexico; Roaming The Pink Store

The Pink Store

Day of the Dead isn’t the only thing celebrated at The Pink Store. And not everything here is on the kitschy side. Far from it. Most of the merchandise here is high-end. Owners Ivonne and Sergio Romero make frequent trips deep into Mexico to search out quality items from some well-known artists and craftsmen. Here are examples of statuary and artisan pottery:

Is furniture more to your liking? Well, then, take a look at this:

More pottery, as well as an example of one of the many lighting fixtures you can get here:

Are you perhaps more into textiles, rugs, or clothing? The Pink Store will float your boat in that department as well:

The Pink Store

The Pink Store is also a great place for some really awesome religious art, such as this massive Archangel Michael:

Time to sneak in a scarlet blooming hedgehog cactus (from my front yard) photo just for the random heck of it:

Not all the arts and crafts in The Pink Store reside on shelves and tables. You’ll also find the walls packed with marvelous finds:

The Pink Store

Yes, the lighting fixtures you find here work on U.S. current, as Mexico and the U.S. share the same voltage and plug schemes:

The Pink Store

This entire store is packed with so many finds that we always take at least two, and often three, trips around the aisles. We do this upon arrival, before lunch, and again after lunch before departing back to the U.S.

Need a wall fountain? The Pink Store has you covered:

But The Pink Store is more than just a store. It’s also a restaurant. On Friday I’ll show you what we and our guests had for lunch.
