Fall Foliage Cruise — The Fall Colors of Bar Harbor
Today we’re going to continue around Bar Harbor, camera at the ready, with an emphasis on fall foliage, most on or near Main Street. The exception is this quick shot of Cottage Street, which we’ll spend more time exploring next Monday:
If you continue southbound on Main Street you’ll eventually come to the charmingly named Carmen Verandah bar:
I bring up not so much for the bar (although it did look fun!), but rather what’s just across the street from the Carmen Verandah. This is the Bar Harbor Village Green, and here’s an example of what you’ll find here during fall foliage:
The oranges and reds here are stunning:
But my favorite fall foliage shots include the entire spectrum of fall colors, including the bright yellows and variations of green:
Time to head back up Main Street for some more Bar Harbor views:

Fall Foliage Cruise — Into Bar Harbor, Maine
Photographically speaking, the seaside town of Bar Harbor, Maine is one of my favorite subjects regardless of the time of year. Throw in some fall foliage and the attraction is multiplied. Bar Harbor is located on Mount Desert Island, which at 108 square miles/280 square kilometers is Maine’s largest.
Today we’ll look mostly at the sights along Main Street in Bar Harbor, and over this week through next, we’ll explore the fall colors, the charms of Cottage Street, stroll along the marina along the Mt. Desert Narrows, and enjoy the best lobster roll of our trip at Paddy’s Irish Pub & Restaurant.
Because of the shallow waters off Bar Harbor, this was a tender port. So, Adventure of the Seas anchored in Frenchman Bay beyond Bar Island and Sheep Porcupine Island.
This was not our first trip into Bar Harbor (see: Bah Hahbah — It’s in Maine and Maine Street, Bar Harbor). On our previous excursion here we hit Testa’s Restaurant on the first day of lobster season. And while Testa’s was a huge hit with us, we tried a different lunch on this trip which you’ll see next week.
So, let’s now explore the sights along Main Street, Bar Harbor:
