As I mentioned on Monday, the changing of the guard here in Lisbon usually occurs the third Sunday of the month. Yet, here we were at the Jerónimos Monastery, witnessing this event on the first Monday of the month.

A relatively short walk east from Jerónimos Monastery is Belém Palace, the official residence of the president of Portugal, and before the founding of the First Republic, the residence of Portuguese monarchs. Here, as you would expect, are the palace guard:
