Last week and this I’ve been showing you the various ethnic neighborhoods of Singapore and giving you a glimpse of the various street scenes that await you in this vibrant and colorful city. Most of the photos taken in this next subseries of articles were in Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Gelam (also called Kampong Glam). As you can see above and below, Singapore is a unique blend of the modern and the old. I hope you’re enjoying the visual tour.

Most of the photos taken in this this week’s and next’s subseries of articles were in Singapore’s Chinatown, Little India, and Arab Street in the Kampong Gelam (also called Kampong Glam) area. Today’s article in particular focuses on the Muslim section of Kampong Gelam, with particular emphasis on the Masjid Sultan Mosque.

The original mosque on this site dates to 1824, but the structure you see today began life one hundred years later. Construction began in 1924 and was completed in 1932.
