The Flowers of Museo Larco, Lima

Museo Larco founded in 1926

Museo Larco is a logical stop when visiting Lima, Peru. This museum dedicated to pre-Columbian art (meaning before Christopher Columbus’ visit to the New World in 1492) was founded in 1926, and today Museo Larco contains artifacts spanning some 4,000 years of Peruvian indigenous history, and cultural displays going back another 6,000 years before even that.

But before you get to all that history you’ll pass through the gardens of Museo Larco, including the flower-covered exterior walls of the museum.

We’ll start touring the inside of the Larco and discover its treasures beginning Wednesday. Today however I’m going to show off Larco’s magnificent flowers and cacti. Click on any image below to enlarge an image and bring up today’s slide show:

Historic Center of Lima, Peru — Part 2

On Monday I presented to you some images of Plaza Mayor and Plaza San Martin in Lima, Peru. Today we’re going to enjoy a few more images of both plazas as well as another image or two nearby.

Plaza San Martin derives its name from a historical figure we’ve discussed previously from this voyage — Argentine General José de San Martin. San José de San Martin was an instrumental figure in South America’s struggle for independence from Spain. There is even a statue commemorating him at the center of the plaza:
