Santiago Ho-Ho — Part 4

Street art can be entertaining, and I certainly don’t mean graffiti.  While graffiti is the bane of many communities, sometimes painting on walls can be a source of beauty:

The difference between art and crap isn’t so much the “eye of the beholder” as it is talent and execution.  Any destructive little twerp with a penchant for vandalism can “tag” something.  It takes an artist to do a mural worth photographing.

And if that aforementioned destructive little twerp does have to tag a wall, he should at least show some style and legibility.

By the way, before you get the wrong idea, much of this street art is actually commissioned (although not that last example, I’m sure).  So don’t walk away from this blog post with the notion that most of this was done destructively and against someone else’s private property.  It appears that the residents of Santiago do enjoy a little colorful mural art in their lives.

Indeed even signage can count as “art”:

No, that image above isn’t reversed.  Rather, it’s the back side of this:

This next shot has less to do with art and more to do with contrast in composition:

This week’s Fun Photo Friday brings to a close our visit to Santiago, Chile.  Next week we move on to our next destination — Valparaiso on the Chilean coast.  Meanwhile, here’s one last street scene for today:

Santiago Ho-Ho — Part 3

Santiago 3-11-2015 10-49-28 AM

With a couple of exceptions today’s Ho-Ho views will concentrate on street scenes of people.

If you want to get a true flavor of a city then this is the way to go unless you’re photographing iconic architecture such as New York’s Chrysler Building or Paris’ Eiffel Tour.

As you can see Santiago has much to offer.  It’s both clean and safe, and the people are quite fun to watch as they go about their daily activities.  Even the street art (more on that Wednesday) has a distinctive flair to puts it far above typical graffiti.
