Today I’m going to try something just a bit different. I’m going to post a series of consecutively taken photographs in Tromsø, Norway, starting on Storgata and heading south. The timestamp is posted to give you an idea on how closely space all these sights are.
Now it’s time to cross over one parallel street to the east. We’re now on Strandgata at the Strandtorget looking north:
Strandtorget appears to be quite the draw for outdoor activity in Tromsø. Here you can play table tennis, chess, or let the little ones frolic on the play equipment:
We’re now continuing northeast on Strandgata, heading toward Kirkegata:
Hitting Kirkegata (Church Street) gets you this view of Tromsø Cathedral:
Time to hang a right and head east on Kirkegata to snap a shot of the Roald Amundsen Memorial Statue:
Not bad. All that in just a mere forty-five minutes of casual strolling. But as we headed back toward the ship, I found one additional fun shot. This is the Kongsbakken Upper Secondary School as seen from below on Fredrik Langes Gate:
This week’s Fun Photo Friday will complete this look at Tromsø. Next week I’ll show you our next June 2022 destination — Honningsvåg.

Any walk around Tromsø’s downtown area should include Tromsø Cathedral. It’s not as grandiose as other European cathedrals, especially those dating back hundreds of years ago, but it’s still worth a visit. This Gothic Revival church is fairly new, having been completed in 1861. It also follows the traditional “long church” floorplan typical of Norway. Well take a more in-depth look in a moment, but here’s the area immediately adjacent to the church, specifically along Storgata, which runs west of the church:
By the way, looking for a fun souvenir shop? Try this place, Way Nor, also on Storgata across from the cathedral:
And if you don’t see what you want there, just two doors down (left side of the photo above) is another great shop called Fjellshop. I also love this street for the great roofs you find topping the stores:
Now, back to Tromsø Cathedral, both inside and out:
