The photo above is a bit of an optical illusion, especially when viewing it in person rather than in a photograph. Many in our tour had trouble making out the subject. Initially it looks like a map of South Africa with something overlayed. But after some coaching, squinting, employing peripheral vision, and other tricks, the image of Nelson Mandela becomes apparent.
