India — Kochi; Chinese Fishing Nets and Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica

East India Street Café; Fort Kochi district, Kochi, India

It’s already been a long day on a long tour, and we still have more to see and an evening cruise to go on, so it’s time for a quick refreshment break here at the East India Street Café, Fort Kochi district, Kochi, India. Just kidding. I just liked the sign. That’s not where we stopped, but this café was very nearby. Our tour had our group set up for a charming buffet-style tea on the roof of the 5-star Fragrant Nature Hotel. You know you’re in for a treat when this is the inside that greets you:

The massive mural you see below was completed for the Fragrant Nature in 2015 in a collaboration between artists Mel Holmes and Gary Myatt. Set in the 19th century, it depicts the cultural heritage of Kochi.

Now let’s head on up to the roof:

Then grab a plate and load up a few goodies:

Twenty minutes later we were on the waterfront loading up into our tour boat, from which we saw in quick succession:

Traditional blue and yellow fishing boat with Chinese fishing nets in the background
Brunton Boatyard, now a luxury hotel
Traditional kettuvallam houseboat with Aspinwall House in the background
“Chinese fishing nets” (a.k.a., Shore operated lift nets)

Over the next five Fun Photo Fridays I’ll be doing something a little different. Rather than concentrate on just one area of the trip, these Fun Photo Fridays will combine images from Kochi, Kerala backwaters (near Kochi), and Goa.

Слава Україні! (Slava Ukraini!)
