The Ghost Town Picture Series — Part 1

Ghost Town

My last travel series, which took almost a year to present to you, wore me down a bit. And since that trip, we’ve done even more extensive traveling — Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Prague, back to Cape Town, another cruise up the west coast of Africa and to Saint Helena, and a return to Luxor. Those destinations were over two months-long trips, and I’ll be presenting those to you in the future. As for now, I need a break. So, for the next five weeks I’m going to present a special photographer’s dream — a ghost town. With one exception, all the photographs over the next fifteen articles will be color-filtered black & white. For tips on what that means, see my photography articles: Black & White Photography—It’s All in the Color! and More Fun with Color Filtering for Black & White Photography. As for this series, expect minimal text and maximal photography. The location of this ghost town will remain a secret, for at least most of you, until the last Fun Photo Friday of this series. And while I did all the B&W conversions and most of the photos, some of these were taken by Ursula. Those will be so designated. I hope you enjoy the show!

In Case You’re Wondering . . . Photo 1

. . . why there’re no blog articles this week, it’s because I miscalculated my return date to the U.S. and wound up short. Ursula and I just made it back into Los Angeles after over a month in Oceana. That includes four days on Rarotonga of the Cook Islands and a 34-night circumnavigation cruise around the continent of Australia with a side trip to New Zealand. We were also supposed to make port in Bali, but no one was allowed off the ship for obvious reasons.

So, for this week I’ll post three of my favorite travel photos, beginning with today’s:
