Malaysia — Arriving Kuala Lumpur

On Wednesday, 12 November, Ursula and I boarded Celebrity Cruise’s ship Millenium for the next segment of our Southeast Asia journey. The next day we found ourselves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Why such a short trip? Because Malaysia and Singapore are neighbors sharing the Peninsular Malaysia, a political division of the much larger Malay Peninsula. As usual, Ursula had a busy tour awaiting us in Kuala Lumpur, and the first attraction on this tour would be the 1,381-foot/421-meter Kuala Lumpur Tower. Npw, despite having spent an entire Air Force and FAA career in tall structures, one would not expect me to have acrophobia, but guess what…. Actually, that’s not quite true. It’s not so much tall heights, or even falling from such heights. What I fear is the sudden stop at the end of that fall!

But Ursula wanted to go up, so I naturally acquiesced despite a case of jitters not unlike Jimmy Stewart’s in Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1958 film Vertigo.

KL Tower was not the only tall structure we visited this day. I’ll show you another pair of them on Wednesday, the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers. But KL Tower was the highest I went on this trip.
