Ibiza has several famous outdoor “Hippie Markets,” and the most famous of these is the Punta Arabí Hippie Market. It’s also the original, dating back to 1973, and the largest, with over 500 venders. As luck would have it, Punta Arabí Hippie Market is only open on Wednesdays. So, what are the chances Ursula and I would be on Ibiza on a Wednesday, specifically the 18th of May 2022?
If you’re into arts, crafts, handmade clothing, hand-woven baskets and mats, leather goods, and whatnot, then this place may be for you. It was positively teeming with both vendors and shoppers.
But it’s not all shopping-’til-you’re-dropping here. You can also find shade, food, refreshment’s, and even a little musical entertainment as you wander through the stalls:
But I have to be honest with you. While this would be a great place to stop for under, say, half an hour or so, our tour spent far longer than necessary. That wasn’t just our opinion, but rather the consensus of most of our tour group.
Am I glad I saw this famous, iconic Hippie Market? Yes, but it did get a bit repetitive after a while.
If you’re in the area on a Wednesday between May and August, then by all means drop on by and give it a shot.
Just don’t expect the Punta Arabí Hippie Market to hold your interest if your tour drops you off here for well over an hour and a half.
This week’s Fun Photo Friday will be the first of three featuring Ibiza favorites. Next Monday we move on to Portiatx Beach and the town of Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza’s second largest town. Until then:
