Santiago Metropolitan Park and Funicular Part 2
Atop San Cristóbal Hill are another couple surprises. The most notable being the Blessed Virgin Mary statue. This statue measures 72 feet/22 meters in height, and stands upon a 46-foot/14-meter tall pedestal:
Nearby is a sanctuary dedicated to the Immaculate Conception:
The Sanctuary Bell Tower is quaint enough to deserve a closeup:
Be sure to walk around the top of the hill for spectacular views of Santiago:
Eventually you’ll have to pry yourself away and head back down:
And, believe me, it is a long way down:
Don’t forget to enjoy the colorful flora along the way:

Santiago Metropolitan Park and Funicular Part 1
About half an hour’s walk from our apartment in Santiago’s Metropolitan Region is the Metropolitan Park and its funicular to the top of San Cristóbal Hill. San Cristóbal Hill rises some 985 feet/300 meters above the surrounding city, topping out at nearly 2,990 feet/880 meters above sea level. In other words, the view at the top make this a must-see, must-photograph.
It’s a long trek uphill.
And as the lower station recedes from view the city spreads out before your eyes.
Along the way the view just gets better and better.
Eventually you make it to the top.
Indeed, the view from the top makes even Santiago’s tallest building look somehow smaller:
Here is a teaser to tide you over until Wednesday:
