Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Flåmsbana Myrdal Station back to Flåm

Our Flåmsbana train reached Myrdal Station around 11:15 a.m. Ursula and I took the opportunity to step outside our railcar, stretch our legs a bit, enjoy the brisk air at 866 meters/2,841 feet, and take in the scenery. As you can see below, many of our fellow passengers likewise availed themselves of the same opportunity:

As you can see from this sign, we’re 21 kilometers/13 miles from Flåm:

Reboarding the Flåmsbana for the return trip to Flåm, you’ll notice a video screen in each railcar with a running indication of the train’s location throughout the trip. In the image below you’ll note that there are eleven stations on this route, including the two end stations of Myrdal and Flåm. The red arrow indicates that we were an Vatnahalsen Station at the time this photograph was taken:

Later along the trip, at about the halfway point, is Berekvam Station. Berekvam is the only point along the Flåmsbana line to feature a passing loop:

Back at the Flåm Station at 12:51 p.m. with time to spare before setting sail on Jewel of the Seas for our next Norwegian destination:

Several hours later we were sailing the fjords of Norway beginning with Aurlandsfjord, then winding through Sognefjord (Norway’s deepest and longest fjord) toward open sea. For Wednesday and next week I’ll be showing you our voyage through these fjords beginning with these two shots:

Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Flåmsbana stop at Kjosfossen and on to Myrdal Station

The Flåmsbana stop at Kjosfossen Station lasted perhaps ten minutes or so. There are no residents at this station. It’s merely a tourist stop to allow photos of he magnificent Kjosfossen waterfall. Today I’m going to show you the sights at the waterfall and the areas heading from the waterfall toward Myrdal Station. As with Monday’s article, today’s photos will be captioned with timestamps to give you a sense of the timeline.

Jewel of the Seas — Norway; Continuing on the Flåmsbana Railway
