Fun Photo Friday — Looking Around La Paz

Party Line

Today I present the little touches that give La Paz so much of its photogenic charm.

By the way, if you’re reading this and other material authored by me on The Destinary website, this post was not “Posted on (fill in the date) | By destinary” as they’ve been erroneously claiming; this material was in fact reposted.  The Destinary have also been claiming the right to do so, without links back to the original and without full attribution (“by RDoug” and a nonworking link is not proper attribution) with a rather bizarre interpretation of U.S. copyright law in which they claim I’m responsible for changing my RSS feed settings so that they cannot skim my material for commercial purposes.  That would make reading my blog less convenient for you, which I’m not willing to do.  As such, I’ll be running this little diatribe on all travel related posts until they cease and desist, along with this:

Continuing Along the La Paz Boardwalk

The city of La Paz is a real charmer with much to see and photograph.  Even the shoreline has a character all its own.

I hinted on Monday that you would see a gigantic oyster shell and pearl.  This is just one of the many pieces of art that decorate the boardwalk.

Across the street from the boardwalk you’ll find brightly painted buildings.  Here is a restaurant that was still decorated for Día de Muertos, the Day of the Dead, which I described to you recently in my series on our stop this cruise into San Diego’s Old Town.

Across the street is also a good vantage point from which to photograph the boardwalk.

As we headed away from the bay and into town, Ursula and I also found some interesting mural work.

Arriving La Paz, Baja

Very Welcome to La Paz (Peace), Port of Illusion

Very Welcome to La Paz (Peace), Port of Illusion

On Monday, November 3, the Golden Princess arrived off La Paz, Baja California Sur, in the Sea of Cortez.  This is not a common cruise ship destination, and neither Ursula nor I had ever been here before so we were quite looking forward to visiting La Paz.  We were not disappointed.

Bay of La Paz

Unlike all the other Mexican ports we would visit this cruise, La Paz is not a tender port.  You dock just off the city’s boardwalk, which runs along the bay.

La Paz Boardwalk

The boardwalk itself is quite charming.  It is decorated with many works of art and even a giant oyster shell with a glistening stainless steel pearl (which you’ll see Wednesday).

The boardwalk also has a distinctive faux lighthouse for an added nautical flair befitting a sea port.

And how often do you see a two-story gazebo?
