Today I present my favorite images from both the Shanghai Museum and the Shanghai History Museum. Included are those two images I promised on Monday of some beautifully crafted and detailed dioramas. Click on any image to bring up today’s slide show.

Museum Week — Shanghai Museum
Another museum we visited exposed us to the beauties of historical Chinese Art. This would be the Shanghai Museum.
The multistory Shanghai Museum is split into several galleries, and it would take days to see them all so you must be selective. The galleries include:
- Bronze
- Ethnic Chinese Minority Arts and Crafts
- furniture of the Ming and Qing dynasties
- Calligraphy
- Ceramics
- Coins
- Jades
- Paintings
- Sculpture
- Seals (or Chops)
Since time was limited and there was much to see I concentrated on the Jade, Ceramics, and Furniture Galleries.
Not everything of photographic interest resides in just the galleries, however. Take a look at this stunning end cap on the staircase:

Museum Week — Shanghai History Museum
Inside the base of the Oriental Pearl Tower is yet another attraction. It’s a charming combination of wax figures, dioramas, classic vehicles, and historical artifacts called the Shanghai History Museum. The detail on the dioramas is stunning, and I’ve saved the best of these for Fun Photo Friday.
The vehicles were fun, especially what appeared to be an original Willys Jeep they had in the collection.
But it was the wax figures that stole the show throughout much of the museum. Take a look at this opium den, for example:
However some of the historical artifacts were also stunningly beautiful. Take this Wedding Sedan Chair for instance:
The Shanghai History Museum is definitely worth a run-through, and here’s more of what awaits you:
