Shanghai — Part 2
The Nanking Road shopping area is far from cheap. Remember that trip to the Beijing Jade Factory and Store? You certainly won’t beat those prices here in Shanghai.
There are some exquisite jade stores in this area, and some examples of jade for sale will be among the highest quality you’ll find anywhere. The problem is that you’ll easily spend three, four, five time or more than you would have for similar quality in Beijing at the government-owned outlet.
Still, it’s a fascinating place to visit. Click on any image below to bring up today’s slide show:

Shanghai — Part 1
On our fourth day in Shanghai our guide Mao “Jim” Chen finally gave us a little free time on Shanghai’s busiest shopping district — Nanking Road near The Bund.
It’s a very dynamic area with a lot of hustle and bustle. Fortunately Nanking Road West is blocked off to traffic, making it one huge shopping mall.
Shopping is not the only draw to this area however. Approaching the Huangpu River puts you in The Bund.
In The Bund you’ll also find a statue dedicated to the first mayor of Shanghai — General Chen Yi.
The Bund also gives you a fantastic across-the-river view of the Pudong area.
We’ll continue our tour of this and other areas of Shanghai on Wednesday and Friday. Until then click on any of the images below to bring up today’s slide show:
