Why I Love Northern New Mexico—Part 3

Dotting this “Enchanting” landscape you’ll find old ranch homes and lonely trees framing picturesque hills.  Dry, golden grasses frame ice-covered ponds in the winter.

Walk the streets of New Mexico’s capital—Santa Fe.  Explore the Old Santa Fe Plaza.  Visit the Palace of the Governors at the right times and you’ll find Native Americans beneath its expansive veranda selling beautifully hand-crafted jewelry made of silver, turquoise, and semi-precious stones.

When one considers all there is to see and do (remember last week’s series on the Ghost Ranch?), you can easily spend a week or two to experience it all.

Now for some more photographs:

Why I Love Northern New Mexico—Part 2

Even many of the restaurants in Northern New Mexico carry on the ambiance of the region—with whitewashed walls, brightly-colored fabrics, and beamed ceilings.  But it’s the food that is the real draw.  Below you’ll see in interior of one of our favorite lunch stops—Rancho de Chimayo Restaurante and Hacienda.  It doesn’t get much more authentic than this.

The Rancho de Chimayo is just minutes from the famed El Santuario de Chimayo, considered by some to be the most Catholic pilgrimage center in the U.S.

Now, time for me to shut up and let you enjoy the view in solitude:

Why I Love Northern New Mexico—Part 1

This week I’m going to let photography do most of the speaking.  But in short, I love Northern New Mexico for the old missions, the art communities, the scenery, and the cuisine.  I love towns such as Chimayo, Abiquiú, Santa Fe, and Taos.  I love Canyon Road in Santa Fe for its 100+ art galleries, each one as distinct and individual as is the state of New Mexico itself.

So, today we begin a three-part photo journey into The Land of Enchantment:
