Our winery tour left the Paarl area behind, and a short time later we found ourselves on a brief, quick walking tour of Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is about 30 minutes south of Paarl, and is located approximately 31 miles/50 kilometers east of Cape Town. Like the Paarl region, and Stellenbosch wine region is a subset of a wine growing area collectively known as the Western Cape Wine Region.
It was a quick tour, and we didn’t have a lot of time to stop for photographs. Nevertheless, I did snag one photo of the famous Moederkerk (Mother Church):

After that it was back on the bus for a brief bus ride south to the Blaauwklippen Wine Estate. Reaching the estate and heading toward the entrance, you’ll past some more statuary:
I’ll be reviewing this winery in Wednesday’s article. But before I leave you, I want to present a final image taken earlier in the day. There is a small town southeast of Paarl, east of Stellenbosch, with a decidedly French vibe. And there’s a reason for that. Huguenots fleeing France, after Protestantism was all but banned by King Louis XIV, landed the Cape of Good Hope in 1688. These refugees were granted the Franschhoek Valley to settle. That community went on to establish the town of Franschhoek. In Franschhoek is a Huguenot Memoria and Museum. This the the Huguenot Memorial:
