Singapore in Pictures 7 — Kranji War Memorial & Cemetery 1

Kranji War Cemetery

Singapore suffered greatly under Japanese Imperial Army rule during World War II. And to this day Singaporeans blame the United Kingdom and Australia for the Fall of Singapore following inept defense and inadequate resistance despite vastly superior numbers over the Japanese invaders. The resulting casualties were horrendous — 85,000 Common Wealth troops captured, 5,000 troops (mostly Australian) killed. Thousands of Singaporeans of Chinese descent were targeted and killed. Thousands more Common Wealth troops died following horrific treatment as prisoners of war.
