I’ve given tips before on how to photograph Christmas lights. For a refresher, here are a few articles:
- Photographing Outdoor (and Indoor) Christmas Lights
- Fun Photo Friday — Christmas Lights 2013
- And even a lesson on Available Light Photography Without a Tripod
On today’s photo gallery/slide show, click on any image below to see the shot data for that photograph, which will include ISO, f-Stop, shutter speed, and focal length (in 35mm equivalent). The camera used was a Canon G1 X with a 12 megapixel, 1.5-inch/38mm sensor. Images were taken in raw and post processed to compensate for low exposure, in many cases up two EV-2 (-2 f-Stops). Additional tweaks included adjustments for lens (vignetting, distortion, color blur, etc.), and saturation.
Below is today’s photo gallery. Click on any image to enlarge and read the shot data.
Thanks for the tips. It is tricky to get good Christmas light photos. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season and best wishes for a peaceful new year.
You’re most welcome, Karen. So glad I could help.
And thank you for the holiday wishes. I’m hoping you have a very Merry Christmas, and a wonderful New Year as well.
I really love all the lights. I have over 60 candles that I will light on Christmas, plus a menorah. Our tree has over 2500 tiny LED bulbs plus even smaller lights on all the plants inside. Nothing like doing it up right!!!
Thanks, CJ (aka Tobi)
Thank YOU, Tobi. Great hearing from you! So glad you enjoyed the show, and it sounds as if I should be photographing your display.
