We departed La Paz the evening of November 3 and found ourselves anchored off Loreto, Mexico, the following morning. Yes, no large ship docking facilities — another tender port. Between these two ports I would be hard pressed to select a favorite, but Loreto does offer a unique beauty that sets it apart from La Paz.
One option you have here is to swim with the immense whale shark, and several of our shipmates did just that. The whale shark is the largest of the shark family, growing to over 40 feet/12 meters in length and weighing up to 33 tons/30 metric tons! One day Ursula and I want to return to swim with these gentle giants, after I rid myself of the feeling I have “fish food” stamped across my forehead. I needn’t worry. These guys are plankton eaters. Still, the size of that mouth . . . !
From the ship we took a brief walk southeast along Paseo A. Lopez Mateos and the shore, then hung a right onto Avenida Salvatierra.
About a thousand feet/300 meters inland we came across the Plaza Civica with its marvelous elevated bandstand.
Keep your camera ready along this route. You’ll stumble across some really eye-catching scenes such as these:
By the way, if you’re reading this and other material authored by me on The Destinary website, this post was not “Posted on (fill in the date) | By destinary” as they’ve been erroneously claiming; this material was in fact reposted. The Destinary have also been claiming the right to do so, without links back to the original and without full attribution (“by RDoug” and a nonworking link is not proper attribution) with a rather bizarre interpretation of U.S. copyright law in which they claim I’m responsible for changing my RSS feed settings so that they cannot skim my material for commercial purposes. That would make reading my blog less convenient for you, which I’m not willing to do. As such, I’ll be running this little diatribe on all travel related posts until they cease and desist, along with this:

Sorry you’re still having problems with those Destinary folks.
They hadn’t reposted my material in a couple of weeks, and I almost took off that diatribe for this week’s posts. But, lo and behold, Destinary posted last week’s Fun Photo Friday so my comments on their practices will continue.
They really are stupid to reblog my material when I’m publicly humiliating them on their own website every time they do it. But, hey, if they’re that stupid . . . .
Some people just are stupid.
